But I could not resist the lure of a Marshall and bought one of the hand wired ones that looks like a stack but it's 3/4 the size of a 'normal' Marshall. I bought a similar sized, and even cheaper Vox amp that, believe it or not, has that characteristic chime-y sound. I've had a variety of amps, including a little Fender tweedy thing with an upgraded speaker- thing retailed for less than 400 bucks and sounds good. I also have a Fender Tele that was factory hot rodded so it has one hum bucker and one standard Fender style pick up.įor what it's worth as a beginner, the Fender is easier to play- the neck is bigger and the Les Paul 'G' string has a tendency (on mine at least) to go out of tune. I own a Les Paul Standard that was modified by CV Guitars to emulate the Peter Green specimen, with the out of phase pick up and a few other tweaks. There are people here who know a whole lot more about guitars than me, but the Fenders that are made as lower cost models, down to the cheapies, play pretty nicely.
